about

The notion of turning this release into a fundraiser for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation came later into the venture. It's a worthy cause which we hope you will support. All funds raised by this album will go to the ILF, commencing from the date of release until the final day of NAIDOC Week. We are suggesting a price of $5, however you are able to pay more or less (probably), it all helps. For more info on the work of the ILF: www.indigenousliteracyfoundation.org.au/what-we-do

Not having any certainty about when playing live again would become a realistic option, led us to consider alternatives. There's been a lot of Fret action from a recording perspective since mid-February. We've released 20 songs through Bandcamp, while work continues on a new album.

Until this year we hadn't ever released a song written by someone else. We had the idea of bringing out a 5-track EP where each member brought along an offering mostly completed by themselves. The concept grew legs, a couple of us brought along two songs (the enthusiasm was boundless) and we contacted former Fret folk (in the sense that they no longer play live with us, but will always be regarded as part of the Fret collective) and invited them to throw something into the pot. So while Ben and Mitchell may both be living in Tasmania these days hiding from the law, they found time to add something as well. Which was rather cool. Ultimately Cover Drive was born. The track list had swollen to a lofty 10 tracks; technically our fifth album (albeit a digital release only).

Cover Drive boasts a wide range of genres, singers, and production qualities, with more than one guilty pleasure. Hopefully it will bring some enjoyment amid these frustrating times.

Jacinda Barclay, we will miss you. There was so much that you achieved in your short life.

about

FRET Sydney, Australia

Fret: Sydney's finest undiscovered band.
Involuntary recluses, empathic outlaws, FRET brings a tangerine scent to the Sydney undergrowth. From the lower Mountains to the rolling waves and north to the Hunter. From the King's X Coke sign to the village of Marricks, the dust settles in an Inner West full-body shuffle. Indie rock / post-punk seduction. Beguiling as the falling leaves. ... more
